Tips to Settling in to a Work-From-Home Routine

We’ve all probably wanted to work from home at one time or another.  Wake up when you want, stay in comfy clothes all day, no meetings. Sounds good, right?  Well, now that we’re forced into finding a new normal and working from home, it’s not quite what we expected, and it comes with its own challenges.  SalesGig put together some tips to help you settle into your new routine of teleworking.

Get Dressed

As tempting as it is to stay in pajamas all day, don’t underestimate the power of getting dressed. You don’t need to get as dressed up as you would for the office, but the act of getting dressed sends a signal that it’s time to wake up and be productive.

And let’s be real here. You may be working from home, but that doesn’t mean you won’t have meetings or that you won’t “see” anyone. Between offices conducting virtual meetings on Skype and Zoom, along with your children having to log virtual time with their teachers, you’re bound to appear somewhere.

Establish a Workspace

Designating a workspace or home office can help keep you focused.  It can also help you balance your work and home life.  Maintaining a balance is key to surviving working from home. It can be hard to turn work off when you work from home.  To go along with defining a workspace, you should clearly define your working hours. This helps with keeping a routine and also prevents you from working through family time.  Pushing yourself too much just because you’re working from home now isn’t healthy and can lead to burnout.

For tips on avoiding burnout, check out our blog Strategies to Avoid Burnout.

Stick to a Routine

Yup, the dirty “R” word. Routines may seem like they suck the spontaneous fun right out of it, but they are a necessary evil.  You do not need to stick to the routine you had at your office, rather you’ll need to come up with a new routine taking into account things like working around your kids schedule as well.

In addition to keeping us on task, a routine can also help promote your mental health.  Having a routine in place makes it easier to make better choices and face any challenges that occur.  The Sylvia Brafman Mental Health Center goes on to say that “structured routines can help your life feel more manageable.”

Avoid Distractions

It’s probably easier said than done as there are so many things that are vying for your attention while you’re working from home.  Kids, spouse, dirty dishes, the never-ending pile of laundry and of course, work.  It is easy to feel overwhelmed and distracted.  By sticking to your routine and setting clear work hours (and sticking to them), this can help you stick to your resolve on not getting distracted.  Distractions can be costly in time and you may find yourself needing to catch up during non-work hours.

Finding a new work from home routine can be stressful.  Just remember, we’re all in this together and it’s okay to be frustrated and to reach out for help.  We may not be able to help with everything, but as our way of helping sales professionals and companies navigate the SalesGig website a bit easier, we’ve added a chat function allowing for easier communication and faster answers.

What’s a Rich Text element?

The rich text element allows you to create and format headings, paragraphs, blockquotes, images, and video all in one place instead of having to add and format them individually. Just double-click and easily create content.

Static and dynamic content editing

A rich text element can be used with static or dynamic content. For static content, just drop it into any page and begin editing. For dynamic content, add a rich text field to any collection and then connect a rich text element to that field in the settings panel. Voila!

How to customize formatting for each rich text

Headings, paragraphs, blockquotes, figures, images, and figure captions can all be styled after a class is added to the rich text element using the "When inside of" nested selector system.
